Is getting your hair colored at a salon any better than color from a box?

I like to get my hair colored about twice a year. Is it better for your hair to get colored at a salon or at home from a box?

As a licensed hair stylist, I would strongly recommend going to a salon and having a professional color your hair. Many of my corrective color clients are women who have tried to color their own hair at home with catastrophic results. I often ponder why they even sell chemicals which can cause so much damage to the general public. You really need to be knowledgeable about the chemical reactions and understand the color wheel to effectively color hair with the end result you wish to achieve.

If you are asking if it is BETTER to go to the salon, then yes. You get a better color, more evenly applied, and we can make great formula's. The color in a salon can be a lot more gentle on your hair then a box color. Just remember this, if you want a $10 hair then do it with a box. If you want a $40 hair do it in the salon. It is your hair so it is totally up to you but, remember you get what you paid for.

At a salon, because the coloring is done by professionals. But, if you already have experience with boxed hair dye and it worked out, go for it.

I believe it is up to the individual , myself I like going to the salon they come up with some real great color mixtures and get all your hair even

Yes first of all because it looks a whole lot better, but most importantly because the dye salons use have special conditioning which prevent your hair from getting as much damage.

I prefer to do it myself - it's cheaper and i can get things done around the house while it's sitting. I just did mine last night actually and I like it better than any time I've ever had my hair done at a salon, I can't stop looking at it.

Both of them do about the same damage to your hair cause the care both the same chemicals.

If you have never colored your hair at home you can do it at home but if you havent it is probally better to go to a salon

After you done it a couple of time, I think the results would be pretty close to that of a hair salon.

Absolutely! Particularly if you have any white/grey roots. If you dye them at home they sometimes turn pink or green. The dye at a salon is more gentle on your hair and they can see and dye parts of your head you can't do yourself. As a bonus, they can fix anything that goes wrong for free!
