Also, is there any way of preserving it? Like if you filtered it and put it back in the jug?

I got my fry daddy in '88, I have yet to change the oil.

keep it covered, the oil will stay good for at least 3 months.

the temperature that oil reaches is the reason it can be used for so long, no bacterias can survive in that kind of heat.

Used cooking oil will turn rancid in a matter of days.

It depends on what you cook in it. If you cook meat I wouldn't reuse it, but if you cook fries or something like that it will last a couple of days

Hydrogenated oil, the one that will clog your heart are reusable and will last longest.
