Beans on Toast

This is an updated version of the classic favorite:

Ingredients:

1 can of baked beans,
toast,
olive oil,
one red pepper,
one white onion,
fresh garlic
some diced tomatoes,
crushed red hot pepper flakes,
and perhaps a jalepeno pepper, if desired

Instructions

Sautee the chopped red pepper, onion, garlic and jalepenos in a pan. After a few minutes add the diced tomatoes (chopped) and the beans, along with the hot red pepper. Get the toast going in a toaster oven with a little olive oil drizzled on top.

When the toast is crisp and hot, pour the beans and vegetables from the pan on top of the toast (best if it is piled high and spilling over onto the plate).

This is the British version.

Bon Appetit

My FAVOURITE school dinner was at secondary school. It was two pieces of Warburtons Thick toast, with a ton of grated & melted cheese in between and nice thick beans on the top. I have no idea how they got it so good - I tried and tried but somehow I could never make it the same when at home.

I also like a lot of freshly-milled black pepper and the occasional dash of Worcester Sauce...

Can I have 10 points to make up for the fact that I have since discovered my wheat intolerance and have consequently had to give up my staple diet? Wheat free bread SUCKS!

Nufink! Only use Heinz baked beans and no sliced bread. The Toast should be in thick slices and buttered generously. To drink - a good sized mug of tea.

you can probably figure out the recipe for toast, but I've got one for bakes beans

1 #10 can of Pork and Beans (rinsed and that gross little fat chunk thrown away)
2 lbs. of diced fried bacon, drained, but keep grease
1 medium yellow onion diced and carmelized in the bacon grease
1 lg bottle of Mrs. Butterworth's Butter Flavored Syrup
dump everything in a crock pot and cook uncovered on low, stirring frequently until it gets thick and dark and yummy

Believe it or not, it got me blue ribbons 2 years in a row at the cookoff at the fair

Here in the USA, it's common to put bacon, onion, and molasses or brown sugar.
Here's a recipe for you...

"Baked Beans" - 8 to 10 servings

1 lb. dried navy beans
1 small onion; minced
8 slices bacon or 1 cup ham; cut up
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 cups tomato juice
1/2 - 1 cup water from cooking beans, if needed

Soak beans overnight (8 cups water to 2 cups beans).
Cook 2-3 hours in soaking water until beans are nearly soft. Drain (save water for cooking other vegetables, since it has nutrients from the beans). Add rest of ingredients to drained beans. Bake at 325* for 2-3 hours. If mixture becomes dry, stir in 1/2 - 1 cup soaking water.

Toast your bread lightly, heat you beans, not to boiling. Put beans on toast with a slice of cheese under you grill, absolutely delicious.
