I think its a great religion and it treats all equally. It never had problems with putting down female rights. Its a religion that hates drugs and violence. Since 9/11 many people have had the wrong image of islam because of the media, which we all know, lies alot to get he viewers attention. Sure, its been violent at times non-the-less but its a really peaceful religion all the same. Its just that the thing that causes violence is the fact that muslims are being kicked out of certain states for no reason, and are being tortured without actual evidence. This makes muslims mad to see their fellow man being treated like this and arouses their anger. Other than that, muslims dont believe in big wars and other war like stuff. I think islam was a a very advanced civilization from the start (as u can see fom the buildings and structures and the crusades) , and ruled much of the time. At one period of time, half the entire world was muslim. I think its a great religion and people should view it at the angle it should be viewed at - peaceful and welcoming.

The literal meaning of Islam is peace. The basic preaching of Islam is akin to Christianity and Jewism with same concept of heaven and hell and other stuff. Err eye for an eye, cheek to slap etc. But the best thing about Islam is our holy Book, which, even now, no one can prove that it has been altered, amended or tempered with a single word even after centuries, which is, dare i say, unlike the rest of the religions.
This thing gives Islam diversity and uniqueness and we believe that the guideline provided by our holy book is divine.
By civilization, it depends moreorless on the culture of the place where it is prevailing. But we do have an express standard of dress code, food, and activities which must be in line with specific injunctions. Moreover, the brotherhood of Islam and the respect for other religions, people and different gender are the hallmark of Islamic preachings.

How would you define 'Islamic civilization?
The basic teaching of Islam is 'Submission to God.'
Islam is a religion.
The prophet Mohammad did 'civilize' the Arabs using Islam but just as we won't call Christianity a 'civilization' I don't think we should call Islam a civilization.
Some Islamic fanatics think that Islam should conquer the world but I don't think this would be civilized.

Once upon a time when Europeans were dying from lack of hygiene, men of science were burnt at the stake because they dared question the church-endorsed ignorance, Muslims were building a huge empire extending from Samarkand to Spain, laying the foundations for modern science and culture, thanks to their discoveries in physiology, mathematics, astronomy, medicine and art. Unfortunately the contribution of the Arab-Islamic civilisation to the science and culture is not taught at school. Take time to read about Islam Golden Age. You will be amazed. Alas! This once highly vibrant and dynamic civilisation has been going down the hill for centuries with no hope of a renaissance

I like Arabic culture, i like muslims, and embrace they're culture. I'm absolutely fascinated by their art, their conviction, their ferver and their dedication. I do not like their religion, however. Btw, Islam isn't a civilization per se. It acted the same way Catholicism did in the medieval ages, a religion that united many nations and cultures under one law but never directly controlled any nation.

Like all great religions and civilizations has many fine features. Sadly, those have been lost and the worst element now seems in control..or at least has everyone else so scared they dare not act like reasonable people, instead they are acting like barbaric 7th century tribesmen, doing things like sawing off heads and raping non muslim women because "islam taught them it was ok."

I think the religion has some good points and some not so good points as is the same with most, as far as a civilization, I don't really agree with the treatment of women in the more fundamentalist areas or the teaching of hate and killing.

Easily the most backwards in the world.

All other cultures have contributed a million times more...and that being generous because it implies that some muslims somewhere once contributed something.
