in some other countries like India they have what is called arranged marriages. this is where the parents of the girl will pick a husband for her. sometimes the girl wont even see the male before they are married. the family is supposed to offer a dowry which is basically like "payment" for the bride.

a marriage your parents arrange - they find a husband or wife for you and make you get married, no matter what. these arrangements could be made when the bride and groom were only two and had never met eachother! and in ancient china, rarely, a family would adopt a girl or boy to raise in a family of only daughters or sons, and later on, marry a brother-sister pair together! arranged marriages still happen today, but it is definitely not as common

An arranged marriage is a marriage that is at some level arranged by someone other than those being married. Such marriages are common in the Middle East and parts of Africa and Asia. Other groups that practice this custom include the Unification Movement and royal families.

if i am not mistaken, the parents are the ones that decide who their children marry. That is why it is called arranged marriage since the bride nor the groom actually have a say in the decision.
