layers actaully add a lot of volume, so if you have flat hair, try avoiding flat ironing your roots, you want them to have a little volume. Also, why would you want to flat iron your flat hair? If your hair is flat and wavy and u want it to be straight Blow dry that sucker... get some VOLUME do the layers!!

u should layer it only if u like the look - i wouldn't want to spend time flat ironing it all day. layers can be worn without being flat ironed too - keep that in mind. if your hair is flat already, you will have volume when you get layers and taking that away by straightening it again is pointless. get layers, don't straighten your hair. layers look great with black hair.

i flat iron it once a week but its because i wash it and deep condition
i wrap my layered bob , sit under the dryer, then flat iron it and rewrap my style and it stays fresh for 2weeks .
iam african american and i go by the procedure that my hairstylists showed me the technique to keep the layers fresh and not keep putiing heat in my hair everyday

layered hair looks best with lots of volume. i think if you do layer it, sraightening it all the time will make it look even flatter. Instead try using a straightening shampoo, conditioner, and cream and blowdrying it straight sso that its straight yet has volume and thickness
