First of all if it is red and swollen it is showing signs of inflammation. So more than likely you have an infection in the toe that may be coming from the fungus that is in your toenail. Also, you need to soak your feet in Epsom salt until you see your doctor.

Fungus may have softened nail and is causinf ingrown toenail. Soak toe in hot water. See if pulling nail away from side helps at all. You may need treatment if this doesn't clear up.

Sure there could be a connection. If the problem persists for a week without getting better or gets worse. Go see a Podiatrist. Podiatrist = foot specialist. That's all they do and they'll know all the tricks to help you.

Its not related cause swollen usually means that there's too much blood circulation in one area. I would definitely try to stay off of it and keep it iced and let the healing process take care of it.

Yuck and ouch. You haven't given very much information, so I'm not sure what to tell you except go see a doctor, or if you can't do that, ask the pharmacist at the drug store.
