Like with any tradition, it is founded within religion that this barbaric action has come into a practice. Mostly practiced by the Jewish nation. But behind the practice is a practical foundation. They first removed the foreskin to prevent infections between the folds.
The boyfriend swears that it originated in Germany were they used the discarded foreskin to make our now modern day bratwurst. Yes, you read that correctly, pork filled foreskin. I'm sure they had to stretch it a bit...but I am a bit skeptical.
Seriously, what do you believe in your heart? Do you believe God would want us to remove the foreskin that we are born with? Then the answer is YES. It must have a purpose for being there. Do you believe on the other hand that the bible is a book written by one man who claimed it was dictated to him and therefor fallible? Because if the bible says that "man is fallible", then why do we never question the one man who wrote this book? Man is fallible, the bible was written by one, and therefor that darned book is fallible.
The truth you seek lies within you.

If I were the book of Leviticus, I wouldn't have named it that. I would call it "How to Survive in the Desert if You're a Tiny, Bronze Age Tribe", because that's what it is - in instruction manual for primitive desert survival. If you look closely, all the crazy rules are the kinds of things that will help keep a small population growing and living healthy in the desert without access to any kind of modern technology. For instance, if you don't have water to regularly "bathe the snake", removing the foreskin will prevent sweat and debris from accumulating here (remember, the Bible was written before underwear or trousers were invented - imagine running around the desert in your bath robe!). Inside the foreskin is a prime location for bacteria and other bad stuff to grow, and if all the tribe's guys have problems down below due to poor sanitation, well the tribe's not gonna grow too fast, is it?
So, does God want you to mutilate youself? Probably not. Does he want your weiner to fall off because you haven't had a shower in 3 years? Again, probably not. The Bible DOES say that he wants you to "Go out, be fruitful, and multiply". Sounds like what God really wants is for you to take good care of your equipment.

The removing of the foreskin'circumcision'is supposed to occur 8 days after birth. This is considered an act of redeeming ones son or a symbolic gesture to substitute for the original blood sacrifice; The first born belong to ME.It also is a sign of the covenant between G-D and his chosen people.

"According to the Torah (Genesis, chapter 17 verses 9-14), God commanded Abraham to circumcise himself, his offspring and his slaves as a sign of an everlasting covenant. According to Halakha, failure to follow the commandment carries the penalty of karet, or being cut off from the community by God."
"The origin of the requirement of circumcision in Islam is a matter of religious and scholarly debate."

"Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead"
Why does that mean you cant cut someones flesh?
Like most of the bible, its been miss enterpreted. Why Just forget the end bit? whats for the dead mean? Taken as a whole, its quite a cryptic sentence. You can cut flesh, apparently, just not, for the dead?...whats that mean? tilll we know, why miss enterpret it?

This is the problem with religion. To cut someone in the name of a god is absolutely crazy.

You are in the Old Testament. Whereas that was the rule then, when Christ came He did away with that. Not all but the majority of the Laws of that day. These days I think it is done for mostly hygene and phsyical reasons.

Why people keep referring to cleanliness is above me, its only dirty if you don't clean it! As for looks each and every one to their own. Its a Jewish custom and they follow the old testament. The new testament brought about new laws, customs and religious believes.
