I read somewhere that Tea Tree Oil helps treat an infection in a nose piercing. Is this true?

To those that have said to go to a doctor, I have gone to my piercer, and my infection is going well. I was simply asking if this would help along the healing process.

Tea tree oil when used in mild amounts and after sea salt soaks is highly effective at clearing up infection. Just do not get a large amount of it inside the piercing itself. I'm glad to hear you went to your piercer to ask.

If you use sea salt soaks 2-3 times a day and only SMALL amounts of tea tree oil. However, keep a watch out because for some people the oil will make the infection worse. Just keep the area clean, avoid playing with it if you have unclean hands and you should be fine.Iif the infection is minor you should be cleared up in a few weeks. If it does get worse, go to the piercer and they can help you further. Its always best for us to see the piercing than just go off a description (mainly because sometimes, infections are confused with normal healing and some bumps that form can be treated the wrong way)

I actually had an infection in my belly button piercing. I went to my piercer and they told me not to use tea tree oil, and believe me that was hard to accept because I use it for everything, but you most likely have an infection in your piercing because of the oils on your nose. You should clean it first with an antibacterial soap and see if any piercing shops around you have specific cleanser for that. My piercer has these q-tips filled with a holistic ointment and you snap the ends, and use it once and throw it away, its very sanitary, see if any piercing shops around you have those. They work like a charm. Also the if white stuff is coming out the infection, its not puss, its white blood cells, meaning that you either tore the hole or there is something inside the piercing. Also ask your piercer if they used an implant grade piece, implant grade is higher than surgical grade because that is what they use in hospitals when they actually put metal pieces and stuff inside your body, because your body wont reject it as easily. Good luck and look around for a reputable piercer if you have no luck with the one you are going to now.

I have always that tea tree oil is a good cleanser, usually acne products contain it. I have never heard of it being used for an infected nose ring peircing.

Tea tree oil is like a disinfectant, I haven't used on nose piercing, but I have used it on other areas on my face.

Tee tree oil!..... I swear and live by tee tree oil. Yes it will help your infection. It is also good for acne, If you put it on a pimple, it will kill the bacteria and dry the pimple out so it will heal faster and better. Its good for infection on the skin, cuts. I even put a few drops of tee tree oil in my bathwater when I want to relax, Its great for your skin! You can purchase pure tee tree oil from a drug store or the pharmacy section of a most grocery stores!
