I am so tired of seeing unthinking sentences such as the one above. There appear to be so few professed Christians that know what Christ actually said about eternal life when asked.
(Sorry for paste, but I don't want to be accused of writing words into Jesus's mouth.) Matthew 11,A man came up and asked Him, "Teacher, what good must I do to gain eternal life?' 17`Good?' said Jesus. 'Why do you ask me about that? One alone is good. But if you wish to enter into life, keep the comandments' "`Which commandments?" He asked. Jesus answered, `Do not murder, do not commit adultery; do not steal; do not give false evidence; 19honour your father and mother; and love your neighbour as yourself.' The young man answered, 'I have kept all these. What do I still lack?' 21,Jesus said to him, "If you wish to be perfect, gosell your possessions, and give to the poor, and you will have the tresure of heaven, then come follow me. ------Now how many of you can say you followed Jesus's orders?

Good grief, already there are those that want to twist the words of Jesus to win for their ego.

Don't modern Christians believe that Jesus said exactly what he means...Do you always have to rationalize His words?

Hmm, I am not perfect either. I just realized Jesus only mentions 6 of the commandments....Now that is truly thought provoking isn't it?

Just so there can be no comebacks at all.

Do you notice that Jesus first tells the man that all he need do is keep the commandments? But the man carries on, feeling that it won't be enough for some reason (even though Jesus just said it would)? He feels he's still lacking. Jesus tells him what he must do 'to be perfect'. Not what he must do to gain eternal life. I don't know about you, but, I have too many other people in my life to take care of to be 'perfect'. Even as much as I admire Jesus.

Jesus was telling that man what he was lacking in his life. Believers need to be willing to serve Him with their life. The man in this story was not willing to give up the way he was living in order to follow Jesus.
Jesus wants us to follow the commandments, but knows that none of are capable of keeping them.
That is the reason He came to shed His blood on the cross, in order to pay the penalty for our sin.
The commandments point out to us that we need a savior.

Being a Christian obviously doesn't mean that we will never sin again, it does mean that we are not to make a habit of sin.

I hope this answers your question.

most interesting ....go sell your possions and follow me.... I have never taken serious thought to that until now...so this is my view : That particular time , when Jesus was on earth ,he called for followers to do a specified work /mission ...thus , to be a disciple , a follower of Jesus tthen ,one has to leave home and everything to be with Jesus...Take note , there are many whom Jesus saved and blessed and preached to BUT he did not command them likewise...yet they are his ...so not everyone will be commanded to sell their property but to those few for a specified work on that specified period of time....Application TODAY ? : The Gospel Commision of Matthew 28 : 19 , 20 : Go ye into all the world ...I for one do not have the finance to pay for my world trip to spread the gospel then Jesus comes * Matthew 24 : 14 ) ..BUT RIGHT NOW HERE IN FIJI ,THROUGH THE INTER-NET , GOD'S WORD IS SPREAD THROUGHOUT THE WORLD ...ISN'T THAT AMASING ? ...God Bless

He is saying that anyone who has come to truly accept Jesus must give all over to Jesus in faith and in love.Do not love worldly possessions, they are gifts but there's only one true source. That source is God. He was telling that gentleman to sell all possessions and follow because those who follow and give all will be given all things in return through Christ.

Looks like you love hell. You are forgetting though that you are in it right now. To get out of it, open your mind and feel the magic of inner peace.

Don't look at the symbols literally because that is all you'll see. But if you take a step further and see what the symbols point toward, you will know what life really is.

If you are smart you'll get what I say.

This is one of the parts of the Bible not to be taken literally, in my opinion. God wants us to have things, but not grow so attached to them that we put them before Him. Giving to the poor- give all you can give, but do not spend it all on worldly possessions.
Basically, he means to be a servant to others like He was.

Many Christians have never read this story. They keep all their riches and rely on God's grace to be saved.
Thank you!

in the Word of God.

it tells us that all of us have "sin". and come short of the Glory of God. you see, no one is pefect at all.

we all have sin. but, God tells us in the same Word of God. He will forgive all Sins if we will ask Jesus to come into our Hearts. just ask Him to come in your Heart and find out for Yourself.

hope this helps
