Hi!
I know what do when your car starts to hydroplane out of control, but what do you do if you have a blow out while driving on the highway? Is there anything you can do?
Pump breaks? Turn into the skid? Is there anything?
Just wondering...Thanks...

It is just that I have heard so many bad horror stories about people running off the road and flipping over or crashing into other cars and causing a pile-up, etc. because they had a "blow out". What (if anything) did these people do wrong?

Your car won't lose control as the other 3 tires still have traction. It will just be a VERY rough ride until you get the car stopped. Safely merge off the road and change it or call someone else to if it is too dangerous to do alone.

I've had a blow-out while driving at highway speeds; while it's not fun, it's not difficult to deal with if you are driving with both hands on the wheel at all times as you should. I was able to steer to the side of the road and then apply the brakes steadily without much difficulty, pull off, and change the tire (something EVERY driver should know how to do, we women included - it's not difficult to do), and get to a store to purchase a replacement tire. I was on my way to my original destination in a couple of hours, safe and sound. I'm all of five feet tall, and at the time probably weighed no more than 105 pounds, so it's not a feat of strength - just good driving habits.

You take your foot off the gas and slow down gently, as you slow to a safe speed get out of the traffic if possible get in the emergency lane.
If you continue to drive the tire will chunk to bits and you'll damage the rim. In that case it will be a very expensive repair as you'll be buying a rim and a tire versus just a tire.

If its a front tire, accelerate first, then let the engine slow the car. This straightens the wheels and prevents the car from flipping.

Keep both hands on the wheel, take your foot off the gas pedal and coast to a complete stop(preferably on the shoulder where it,s safe) turn on your hazzards and watch for drivers when exiting your car.(or call for road assistance and sit and wait)

Don't hit the breaks. Let the vehicle slow on it's own. Keeping a firm grip on the wheel. Most accidents happen when the person panic's, hitting their breaks.
