and he won't go to the doctor! Here's the thing...he has been complaining of chest pain / a feeling of someone sitting on his chest, arm numbness / heaviness, low abdomen pain and a stiff neck. This has been going on for the last 3 days. He is only 34 but his dad had a heartattack at the age of 42 and just had another heartattack at 60. I cried to him right now about the reasons why I need him to get checked out...ie. his Wife and two Kids that care very much about him!
I guess I have two questions...What could his problem be? and How can I get him to go to the doctors?

Thank you all for your insite / answers. I am crying as I read them because it is exactly what I have been thinking and I just can't get him to the doctors. I even had the nurse call him and ask questions and she said "Go to the emergency room NOW!" He told me "Maybe after I am done at work" This is so hard....

I don't need to tell you that his symptoms and his family history means that a heart attack MUST be ruled out. I guarentee that if he goes to a hospital they will take him as serious as a train wreck. You need to push, drag, or get his buddies to carry him to the ER. If he has had a heart attack, he may live through it but maybe not the next one, I can't tell you enough how I would like to drag him myself to the hospital. He needs help now!!

Get an aspirin into him a.s.a.p and call the hospital. Those symptoms sound like a mild heart attack. They may not be but a blood test for C Reactive protein will confirm it. or indicate another problem. He could suffer a more serious one any time. Treatments are way better, these days, than even 10 years ago. New drugs, surgical treatments. (some minimally invasive). He is scared and would want & wish to have the whole business go away. He has every reason to be scared and it is not unmanly to seek help. Tell him that.
Good luck and be supportive but insistant.
Doc. Dan.

I would go to the doctor and listen to a professional, but what he could be experiences is called a minor heart attach or angina Pectoris. Angina (Means pain in the chest), this is commonly associated with coronary heart disease. Basically it can get worse. How it works is your heart lack a good oxygen supply and that's why you get pain. The lack of oxygen can be caused by blockage of the coronary arteries, which supply blood to the heart muscle.
Again I would talk with a doctor and find out whats going on. The sad thing is there are a lot of people out there like your husband and end up passing away. All they had to do is go to the doctor and could have taken care of the problem from the start.
In terms of getting him to the doctor, its a shame he is to thick headed to go. He has a wife and kids who love him. I would keep asking him to go and insist that he goes. I wish I could give you some good advise, but if he wants to end up as a vegetable, that stinks

i would say hes headed for a heart attack.i was 48 when i had mine, and i had 4 clots and had to have a bypass surgery,so if he continues to not going to the drs. then it could damage his heart.tell him,if he doesnt want to do it for himself, then do it for his family.doesnt he want to see his kids grow up and do things with his grandchildren.i had mine 10 years ago and i never felt that good in years.

it could be a heart attack and the longer he waits the less chance of survival if he goes in a full blown one. call 911 have the paramedics come check him out. he may get angry but would you rather take the chance on becoming a widow?
