It is of course a personal choice, but some individuals have them as a fashion statement, although I think that they look awful in the front of the mouth. At the back of the mouth, sometimes Dentists may recommend for example a gold crown as this is thinner and more durable than porcelain and may last longer under the pressures that the molar teeth use when chewing, but once again this would not apply to every body as we are all different.

In the "old" days, gold was used frequently for crowns and caps on teeth. It was used because it was all that was available and it worked very well. I used to have a couple of gold crowns.
Today, they have developed new tooth-colored caps which look better because they match your natural tooth color. A dentist can still give you a gold crown if you want. I think they cost a little more than the tooth-colored material. I am sure that most dental insurance won't pay that extra cost.
New thing - now they can inset jewels in your front teeth.

Not every-one WHO does is trying to look cool!
Not much point if you are grey-haired and over 50!!!
I had to have Gold (I've two) because modern polymers they tried just kept falling out and I didn't want to lose the teeth and have false ones! Oh and they were PAID for on the National Health!
Some people do it for vanity though as they do when they stick jewels on or wear studs in their tongues! Other people should not be so quick TO JUDGE! After-all WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT!

they fall asleep with their head under their pillow and the toothfairy leaves the gold in their mouth where she took the tooth from.... lol - thats the kiddies version...
unlike us poor plebs, people who dont want ordinary fillings, or simply want to stand out when they smile, can have a gold tooth fitted instead of the more common, silver LOOKING amalgum fillings. its expensive, but it makes a statement about having more money than good taste.
But is actially stronger and lasts up to 4 times longer than other fillings, so has some advantages.

those gold teeth are crowns. Most people that choose gold crowns do so because they are less expensive than natural looking porcelain crowns and are more durable. I had porcelain crowns and within ten years every single one cracked, broke and had to be replaced, so I went with gold crowns, fifteen years ago and not a one has cracked or broken or given me any trouble, and they were a whole lot less expensive.

its because they had a lot of money and they got bored so one day while they were sitting on their big-***-suade-sofa eating caviar and watching oprah winfrey's special edition therapy for rich pplz, he said hey, to hell with this, im gonna go get a gold tootk, well thank god for the rest of the world... if they got anymore bored, they would have wanted a plaid jacket and comb-ever to go with it, which is an unbearable blemish to the flawless economy of today, NOT!!! hahahahahaha, actually it would be a boost... thank you for asking a question that was on the tip of everybody's tongue, but couldnt muster enough energy to type it out, may the force be with you tulip.
