Basically when it comes right down to it, I think all religion is based on some pretty common themes. I was just wondering what the rest of the world thought.

"Basically when it comes right down to it, I think all religion is based on some pretty common themes."

Basically when it comes right down to it, Jesus did not say: The way to heaven is a "basic common theme".

People can believe all they want to, in a "common theme".

For what it is worth, Good Luck.

I don't think there's supposed to be a "right" religion. If there is, we haven't found it yet.

Far as I'm concerned, all religions that I know of(and I'll admit I don't know everything or even all religions that exist. There's probably something out there I've never even heard of, so, I'm only human) have their flaws. Some things they get right, other things the bomb horribly on.

And you're right, there's a lot of common themes. Some of these themes I like to refer to as "universal truths", although I may have picked that up from a study of Buddhism in high school or college. Name's fitting at least. Some things(like treating each other with respect) is universal. Other things like what happens after death aren't.

It's all a matter of perspective. Far as I'm concerned there's no one "right" religion, but others might obviously disagree with me.

OK My opinion here, and it is just an opinion (like most true believers) There is no true religion. My feeling is that if we would all just live by "the golden rule" (do unto others....) the world would be a much better place. But it ain't gonna happen! Too much faith is placed in what was written (and edited & re-written) by man. So if that is what we should believe, I believe I will have to invent a new religion, based on the writings of Samuel Clemmons! LOL!!!

The jury is still out obviously. While there may be commonalities there are extreme differences based on dogma.

I don't believe anyone should be forced to believe anything they don't choose of free will. here in lies the inherent flaw of many religions. I've heard the "message" from Catholicism, Lutheranism, Methodism, and other mainline protestant religions to the fundamentalists, Baptists, e-free "join us or lose your soul mantras, I've also "heard" the muslim "join or die" mantra. I have to say, I am a deist, I believe fervently in a power greater then myself, that is personal to me. I don't believe I can find it in a church, synagogue or mosque.

Free will is the key. If I chose not to listen to a jehovah witness it means to them, I will not be in the kingdom of God, It means to me, I didn't want to waste MY time listening to their drivel.

Believe what you choose too. Make up your own mind.

Humility is something, when you finally realize you are small frog in a big pond.. You may not be very significant, but you still have value and purpose. Religion of it's self hold no value in my book. But in the eyes of my creator, I have value.

The Bible says:"One body there is, and one spirit, even as you were called in the one hope to which you were called;one Lord, one faith, one baptizm, one God and Father of all [Persons], who is over all and through all and in all.In Matthew7:17-19 Jesus tells us that truereligion is recognised by their fruits . What good fruits should true religion produce? True religionis no part of the world, are not divided by race or culture, and display love among themselves.(John13:35 Acts10:34,35
. True religion instead of teaching tradition and commands of men, bases its doctrine on God's word the Bible(Matthew15:6-9)
True religion strengthens Families and upholds moral Standards by teaching Husbands to love their wives as their own bodies, Helps wives to have deep respect for their husbands(Ephesians 5:28,33:6:1) are these the things that most religions have in common? Not from what I have seen.
False religion on the other hand-:-

Meddles in War and Politics
How many religions can you think of whose members engage in war and politics
False religion Spreads False doctrine
Most religions teach that the soul or spirit l is some invisible part og a human that survives the death of the physical body. By means of this teaching, many of these religions exploit their members, charging money to pray ffor for departed souls. However the Bible teaches a different doctrine."The soul that is sinning - it itself will die."(Ezekiel18:4) "The living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all."(Ecclesiastes9:5) Jesus taught that the dead will be resurrected -- an unneccessary action if humans had an immortal soul.(John11:11-25)Does your religion teach that the soul does not die?
False religion tolerates immoral sex: In Western lands church groups ordain gay and lesbian members of the clergy and urge governments to recognise same sex marriages. Even churches that condemn immorality have tolerated religious leaderswho have sexually abused children. What does the Bible teach? It plainly states:"Do not be misled. Neither fornicators nor nor idolaters, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, normen who lie with men....will inherit God's kingdom(1Corinthians6:9,10)Do you know of religions that condone immoral sex?
THE END OF FALSE RELIGION ISAT HAND!

According to Matthew 7: 21 - 23, Jesus believes false religion exists.
If false exists, there must be a 'right'.

One thing Jesus will do when he returns, is get rid of "false religion" along with anyone practicing it.

What is false religion?

Why does religion seem to be at the root of so many problems?
The fault lies, not with all religion, but with “false” religion.

False Religion...MEDDLES IN WAR AND POLITICS: How many religions can you think of whose members engage in war?

False Religion...SPREADS FALSE DOCTRINE: Most religions teach that the soul of spirit is some invisible part of a human that survives the death of the physical body. However, the Bible teaches a different doctrine. “The soul that is sinning, it itself will die.” Ezekiel 18:4 Jesus taught that the dead will be resurrected, an unnecessary action if humans had an immortal soul. Does your religion teach that the soul does not die?

False Religion...TOLERATES IMMORAL SEX: Church groups ordain gay and lesbian members of the clergy. What, though, does the Bible teach? It plainly states: “Do YOU not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, nor men who lie with men.” 1 Cor. 6:9,10 Do you know of religions that condone immoral sex?

How to identify true religion.

True Religion...PRACTICES LOVE: True worshippers are “no part of the world,” are not divided by race or culture, and display “love among themselves.” Rather than killing one another, they are willing to die for one another.

True Religion...TRUSTS GOD'S WORD: Instead of teaching “tradition” and “commands of men as doctrines,” true religion bases its doctrine on God's Word, the Bible

True Religion...STRENGTHENS FAMILIES AND UPHOLDS HIGH MORAL STANDARDS: True religion trains husbands to “love their wives as their own bodies,” helps wives to develop “deep respect for their husbands,” and teaches children to “be obedient to their parents.”

True Religion is available, search for it.

Jesus said at Matt.7:21-23:"Not everyone saying to me 'Lord,Lord' will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will. Many will say to me in that day,'Lord,Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works in your name?'And yet then I will confess to them:I never knew you!Get away from me you workers of lawlessness." and at
Matt.7:13,14:"Go in through the narrow gate, because broad and spacious is the road leading off into destruction and many are the ones going in through it,whereas, narrow is the gate and cramped the road leading off into life and few are the ones finding it"
Jesus also said that you could recognise true worshipers by their fruits..."Every good tree produces fine fruit, but every rotten tree produces worthless fruit....Really then,by their fruits you will recognise those men"(Matt.7:16-20)
Clearly even just from these couple of scriptures it can be seen that there can only be one true religion. It is not enough to follow a religion because it suits you.But it is up to each one of us to search the scriptures and find the accurate knowledge about God and what his will is for his followers, what he requires of his worshipers and act in harmony with what we learn.

Jesus said "I am the way, the truth and the light. No one can come to the Father except through Me."

I believe that. For me, that sums it up.

I believe all religions are wrong.

No, really, I do. They all have good and bad elements but they all fall short of perfection.
