A cold is a bacterial infection, which means you can eliminate it from your body:

1. Do not stick an unwashed finger in your nose - especially not someone else's! Wash up frequently to wash off bacteria. Clean places where you may have sneezed ASAP.

2. Whatever medication you take, you want to make sure it is a decongestant, not something that will "dry things up" because the way antihistamines work is that they cause sinuses to constrict, holding in all that wonderfully obnoxious goop!! Yech!

3. Drink lots of water. Lots and lots of water. Chicken soup or the like is also helpful because it contains salt, which helps you absorb more water. The point of the fluids is to wash things out. On the opposite end of things, you do not need things that act as an astringent: coffee, chocolate, alcohol, smoking - all these things will make life more difficult in terms of getting rid of a cold!

4. Eat stuff that makes your sinuses loosen. Hello SPICY HOT food! If you're not into spicy, try just adding a lot of pepper to your chicken soup. Cutting a lot of onions may help too. Some spiciness may kill off some of the bacteria.

5. If all else fails, see a doctor and get some antibiotic. The antibiotic kills the bacteria, but remember that you'll still need to wash the gunk out!

6. Get proper nutrition. Vitamin C is good, but don't neglect anything else, like vitamin E or D, etc. Vitamins alone will not do the trick. Water and rest are more essential.

7. Last but absolutely not least, you need to get enough sleep!

Yep, vitamin c. Pop 3-4 a day. Dayquil helped me, too, and doesnt knock you out like Nyquil. Don't overdo. stay hydrated. Good luck, feel better soon.
