The Roman Catholic Church or Catholic Church (see Terminology, below) is the Christian Church in full communion with the Bishop of Rome, currently Pope Benedict XVI. It traces its origins to the original Christian community founded by Jesus, with its traditions first established by the Twelve Apostles and maintained through unbroken Apostolic Succession.
What most obviously distinguishes the Catholic Church from other Christian bodies is the link between its members and the Pope. The Catechism of the Catholic Church, 882, quoting the Second Vatican Council’s document Lumen Gentium, states: "The Pope, Bishop of Rome and Peter’s successor, ‘is the perpetual and visible source and foundation of the unity both of the bishops and of the whole company of the faithful.’"
Protestant broke off from the Catholic Church.

Penn Jilliette said that if Atheism had a pope it would be Richard Dawkins. It was a joke, of course. The Dalai Lamai comes to mind, but most religious sects aren't structured that way.

christians have jesus... if u wanna look at it that way. pope was never anything more then a political base person that would mediate between people and the people in charge of the country. they are extremely corrupt...
this can be seen by the way the pope lives, and what hes got around him. for someone who beleives the bible he sure does have a lot more jewelry and gold surrounding him....

Protestants are anti - Pope. That's why they call us Catholics "papists."
Many of their leaders have failed them so they look to the pope any way. I had no idea bout this until the death of Pope John Paul II. So many Protestants loved him.
It touched me deeply.

If you consider that some leaders call for a "fatwa" against people who talk badly about their religion, and call for the assassination of the Pope...oh nevermind

Jesus started the Catholic Church....the word catholic means universal.....Jesus choose Peter to be the head of the first church...thus he was the first pope....the protestants broke away from the Catholic Church and formed thier own church...all Christian churches go back to Catholic Church which Jesus started...the sad thing though...many Churches that splintered away were started by men...I would rather belong to a Church that Jesus started...thus I attend the Catholic Church...

Protestant Christians do not.
Your religion is between you and the Holy Spirit inside you.
