I'm 15 and pretty anti-social. There isn't a ton you can do about it, some people (and especially some teenagers) just tend to be loners. Pushing the subject will just make things worse. However, it might help if you make getting together with friends easier for him by asking him if he'd like to have any friends over, and offering to help out with the logistics of it.

I was like that, I would hardly see the daylight once I was at home. He probably doesn't know anyone that he can really talk to. All the boys his age probably have girlfriends and he doesn't want one. Or his just has Nintendo and a computer and that makes him happy. I would suggest limitations on the electronics. Tell him to set up a day where someone can go to your house. He is probably thinking about you and how much of an inconvenience this can be for you. I always thought of everyone except myself. i wouldn't want to go anywhere or bring anyone to my house, because I felt like it was a inconvenience to my mom.

What extracirricular activities is he involved in? You should consider this as a way to get him to meet friends outside of school. I have a bunch of nephews close to this age and they swim (competitive), play baseball, participate in scouts, go to church activities, etc. A lot of cities sponsor sports. You could try signing him up for something like that.

if you have any friends with kids around his age, invite them over sometime, or set up "playdates" for him. if that doesnt help give him a little bit of time. there could be something going on you dont know about. but if you bring it up im sure he will get mad, thats how my 12 yr old son is. but worst thing would be punishing him for not be social. dont do that. try talking to him or setting up a counselor for him.

Yeah... a mom taking an active role in her 13-year-old's son's social life. That ought to help...

Leave him alone. He'll figure it out. In fact, he might be happy that way.

Sign him up in extracurricular activities after school. During the summer send him to a summer camp or boys and girls club. It worked for my son.

Does he have sports and/or other activities he likes? If so, get him involved in community activities.

Has he always been this way, or is it just since puberty? He may just be going through something. I imagine if you bring it up he gets mad right?
