I have been backing up my DVD collection for a while, using DVD+R, and using Nero, or DVD Shrink to burn them, now I can only burn to DVD-R anyone know why this has changed, I am using the same disk as before, same programs, but using the DVD+R it comes up as failed to burn.

Are you using the exact same brand and speed DVD+R blanks? I had a similar problem sometime ago. I have a older Memorex DVD burner whose maximum recording speed is 8x. When the first 16x DVD+R came out, I tried to burn to these new disks. It was a disaster, nothing but coasters. Try this, buy DVD+R disks from the same brand as your DVD burner (e.g. Sony DVD burner buy Sony DVD+R). Also, if you maximum burn speed is slower than 16x, try to find DVD+R media with the same speed or less. If everything else fails, try to burn at a slower speed (e.g. 1x or 2x).

Does this happen for just one of your DVDs or every DVD+R you put in? If it only happens with a single disk, that disk is probably corrupted. If it happens for all of them, check the following: Go to the Start Menu>All Programs>Nero>Nero Toolkit>Nero Infotool. When this loads it will show all the formats that your drive can play. If DVD+R is unselected, try selecting it. If this doesn't work, I'd need more info to help you. Have you updated the drivers for the DVD drive recently or installed any new programs that might have affected it?

Could be a number of things.

If you changed the firmware on the burner then there may be an error in it

Your burner may just be wearing out.

If you updated your burning software it may be that it is now incorrectly setting the burn speed at too high a rate and this is causing failures.

You could have a faulty batch of dvd+r discs.
