I did that, and I lost weight, but I was also walking for 45 mins twice a day...use fat free milk with your cereal...and you don't have to stick to the same one....the Special K cereals with berries are tasty, look for whole grain ones and keep them varied or you may get tired of eating the same thing every day for 2 out of your 3 meals.
Exersice and no snacking and drink lots of water.
