A microchip is an identifying integrated circuit placed under the skin of a dog, cat, or other animal. The chips are about the size of a large grain of rice and are based on a passive RFID technology.Microchips have been particularly useful in the return of lost pets. They can also assist where the ownership of an animal is in dispute.
Animal shelters and animal control centers benefit from microchipping by more quickly and efficiently returning pets to their owners. When a pet can be quickly matched to its owner, the shelter avoids the expense of housing, feeding, providing medical care, and outplacing or euthanizing the pet. Microchipping is becoming increasingly standard at shelters: many require all outplaced animals to receive a microchip, and provide the service as part of the adoption package.
In addition to shelters and veterinarians, microchips are used by kennels, breeders, brokers, trainers, registries, rescue groups, humane societies, clinics, farms, stables, animal clubs and associations, researchers and pet stores. Animal control officers are also trained and equipped to scan animals.
Several countries require a microchip when importing an animal, as a proof that the animal and the vaccination record belong together.

A tiny microchip the size of a short, fat rice grain is inserted under the skin, usually over the shoulders. It's too tiny to feel or see. Veterinarians and animal shelters can "read" the chip number with a special reader. When they read the chip number over the phone to the microchip registry, the registry can tell them the information they have on file (which you would have provided to the registry), namely, your contact information. I lost a valuable dog that was turned into the SPCA and they scanned her for a microchip. Long story short, I got my dog back all because of the microchip!

it means an actual microchip, about the size of a grain of rice has been implanted under your dogs/cats skin to help identify him. if lost a vet clinic or animal pound can use a scanner to get a number from the microchip. The people would then call the company that makes the chip and get your pets info and your contact info to help get him home. It's an awsome thing!

A microchip with the owner's information and information about the dog is put onto it. It is then injected into the fatty layer of the dog's neck. When a scanner is ran over it, the inforamtion pulls up on the scanner. Every animal should be microchipped!

A microchip is a tiny electromnic device containing a bar code. The number is registered to you and held on a central computer. Any animal poung SHOULD scan the animal to determine if it has been chipped; if it has then you should get the dog back

My dog is microchipped, which means she has a small chip in her back that the vet inserted with a hollow needle and there is data on it if she is ever lost or stolen. Think of it as lo jack for dogs. Beep Beep please step away from the dog!! LOL

It is an identifiable number on a chip the size of a grain of rice that is placed just under the skin on the back of your dogs neck. They say it only hurts as much as a shot.
If your pup gets lost, animal shelters and most vets have a scanner to read this number and call the company who makes them and the company will call you to tell you your beloved pup is found!

All it means is let say you lost your dog, and the it was recovered by the dogs home (dog pound) the way they would know how to get in touch with the owners is by running a scanner over the dogs neck, in the little chip thats been implanted, it will give the dogs name, age, meds, and your home address, also it stops dogs from getting stolen, because the chip cannot be removed....
Hope this helps some ...... :-)

The put an actual microchip into the animal. It sounds all conspiracy theory I know... but it helps. My neighbor's dog was stolen (pure bred Malamute.....) and she was able to find her dog because of the chip.

The dog has a RFID tag inserted in his back that is readable by a scanner at the vets or at the pound. I has your previous address on it. (cause you never mailed in to the company that keeps the information your new address).
Problems are that there are several RFID scanners and companies and your gotta use the one that is used at the local pound cause they can not afford 300 different types of scanners.
