I see this picture everywhere. LDS homes, LDS publications, LDS churchs......
Why this picture? Why don't they use others?

>The artist went through different changes on this one, each one he took to the First Presidency and finally with this picture, they said that that is what Jesus Christ looks like.

This is not true (as you questioned). It's Mormon legend.

We do use others:

I think people like that one a lot though because it has a trick to it. If you cover one side of his face, He's smiling. If you cover the other side of His face, He's frowning. It kind of cool how it shows so much emotion all at once.

I find this picture to be the best one ever to have been painted of our Lord and Savior. There is a story behind it. I don't know if it is true or not.

The artist went through different changes on this one, each one he took to the First Presidency and finally with this picture, they said that that is what Jesus Christ looks like.

Jesus is a very busy person. Do you know how often people ask him to come by the studio for a photo session? It happens all the time. They just don't understand how busy he is. He made time for the one picture that you mentioned, and that's it. So they make due with what they have.

I guess if you wanted to learn more about the artist Del Parson, you might find out why he was commissioned to paint that portrait, and how he got his inspiration. I heard him speak once in southern Utah. He has had an interesting life. His first wife died relatively young, but he remarried. I do know when I was a missionary, more than one person was drawn to that portrait, and I also feel it most accurately resembles Jesus Christ of anything that has been painted in any era.

We use many different pictures of Christ. But yes, the one you show is popular. I'm not sure why we use it so much. Never really thought about it before.

Also, I've given some links to other popular pictures that Mormons use.

Well, if the LDS be culturally accurate they would go insane! Since Christ was of Arabic decent and not a long haired European model. This would really make it more difficult to keep up their negative declarations regarding people of color under control. I mean they couldn't have Jesus look like an Arab..Holy Cow....John smith would surely have to have another hallucination in the woods to explain that one.

I don't know. It just is. We do have other pictures of Jesus. But Del Parson's is the most used. And like Daisey said, it has that neat trick.
