I used to use heat lamps attached out of reach, for all of my many farm animals..they work very well..get a red one, so it is still nighttime for the dog..

I had one on my front porch, for the feral (untouchable) cats, and one cat cuddled up to it too much and her hair got scorched! about 3 feet from the light...so be sure it is well out of reach..
there are also affordable heat mats for dog kennels, here> http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/NavResults.cfm?N=2001+113255

and cheaper here> http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=bs&sbrftog=1&catref=C12&from=R10&submitsearch=Search&satitle=heat*+mat&sacat=1281%26catref%3DC6&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D2&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=&fsop=1%26fsoo%3D1&coaction=compare&copagenum=1&coentrypage=search&fgtp=

if your dog is an outside only dog, it will not need extra heating. They grow a dense undercoat to cope with the cold. Your set up is perfect for an outside dog. What I would suggest is that you tack a bit of thick cutrain or carpet across the entrance to her kennel and provide her with a thick deep bed of shredded paper to snuggle into at night. She will be toasty warm no matter how cold it is at night and it will prevent any risk of her breaking the lamp and showering herself with shards of thin glass, setting her kennel alight or getting overheated so that she feels the cold even more when she comes out of the kennel during the day.
YOU feel the cold because you live in a heated home which is a stark contrast to the outside cold weather. However if you had no heating in your house or was outside most of the day as I am, you would not feel the cold at all. I have my windows open in the house every day even in deepest winter and hardly ever have my heating on as I am outside for most of the day with the animals and cannot tolerate warmth as my body has adjusted to the cold. I find most people's houses too hot for me and visitors to my home sit with coats on as they say my home is freezing but I find it just right.
I hope this helps.

Don't put a heat lamp in unless you can put it behind a safety guard. Try buying a bale of hay or straw and piling the lot into your dog's kennel. He will soon make himself a very warm, insulated bed without the risks. This will also keep his coat looking and smelling great. Turn the straw every few days and change it once a month or so. (It can be composted.)
Your dog will be very comfortable and safe.

I would figure you will have to mount a heater designed for outdoor use.
I have never thought of heating the dog kennel at all.
Does yours have an enclosure (dog house) or somethign that the dogs can have shelter from the outside in?

I agree with the previous poster. A heater lamp in the top corner would do wonders. It is also a good idea to put foam insulation on the inside walls and lay carpet in the bottom. Wind breaker walls are wonderful too. that's how my dog's is made.

Just today at Wal-Mart I found a bunch of little round pillows for my porch cats! They are in the Sporting Goods/Hunting section for hunters to use for seat cushions; they heat up from the weight of something/someone sitting on them. Great idea and no electricity needed. They are $2.50 apiece, so I got several.

If there is a dog house in there, you can get a heat lamp for inside.

pet type wood shavings for bedding makes a good insulator(warmer than carpet) also the heat lamp sounds like a good idea, make sure your pet can't get burnt by it.
