I've never heard of this sort of thing before. However, bipolar disorder has a genetic base, but seems to be triggered by environmental factors. Current thinking cites stress as a likely trigger, rather than a physical injury. So it is vaguely possible that someone could have a genetic predisposition to bipolar disorder and have it riggered by the car crash. But it would be emotional trauma rather than physical trauma that would be the trigger.
It could also be PTSD misdiagnosed as bipolar, which is possible, I suppose.

Bipolar can stem from something traumatic that happens to a person in their life that they can't deal with.Example: rape/incest.
Some people suppress these events and that is when Bipolar takes over. They can't deal with what happened in real time so,they act out in violent ways. A good psychiatrists can help people like this.Like my sis,who was raped by a family member. She is bipolar..
But to answer your question, yes if the accident was so tragic and she saw something that was considered too painful to live with, she may act out and be very dangerous not only to herself but to others.

Bipolar can be misdiagnosed hyperthyroidism or diabetes or a host of other things, so don't go by the diagnosis, first of all
Second, yeah, it sounds more likely that something was triggered.
Third, check out the story of Phinneas Bogg in the 1800's. That's when we found out that damage to the brain can TOTALLY change a person's emotions and personality.
(PS I can't do italics, sorry for caps)

Just opinion, no fact................but yes, why not? why couldn't it happen?
People loose their eyesight in a car wreck, they loose their legs, never walk again, they have brain injuries, that obsorb a great trama.........it screws up their chemicals in their brains.
SURE consider it..........anything can happen.
