Alcohol does not stay in your system longer, but it can do an enormous amount of damage to your liver and kidneys if mixed with many medications, including over the counter meds. The other issue is that alcohol can also diminish or magnify the effects of the medication as well.
You really should ask your doctor or at least your pharmacist. I run into such issues sometimes (I run an oenology school). I have an MS, and not an MD, but I cannot stress enough that it is very likely a bad idea.
