Nearly all the people making the US and USSR decisions during the Cuban missile crisis were veterans of World War II. Especially JFK and the Soviet Premier.

The U.S saw the damage a nuclear weapon could do.The shock was to much that the Cubans could do the same to Florida if given the power.That was one way it changed peoples views.
But one thing must be understood.A nuke does not defeat a nation.It just makes a leader feel sympathy for its people and give up.If it were North Korea then fighting would go until
every soldeir or rebl on the opposing side gave up.
