South American nations are Christian also, and have high crime rates like the USA. If Christianity is supposed to build better, more humane people, why does it produce so many criminals? In the Scandinavian countries, only 5% go to church.

It's been proven that secular societies are more moral than religious ones. It is thought that it's that way because of the requirement of people to take responsibility for their actions as opposed to putting hope into some other being to help you.

I do not think it is a religious question, since if you take your position to its logical conclusion, then Switerland would be the crime capitol of the world and Burma would be an idillyc paradise.

The issue of high crime in the US is a combination of the breakdown of the nuclear family, the increase of a sense of entitlement, the right to bear arms without a subsequent demand for the responsability that goes with it, the legal systems controls over the power of the police, and yes even the liberalization of the Church.

What the Hell is religiosity? As long as I have been on the religious page I have never heard that word. Waite I just looked it up. Yes it is a word. I am really impressed. You are so intelligent I am overwhelmed. Now go play with you Barby's and let the adults talk. A person should never use a word when they believe they have to explain it's meaning. You just enjoy talking down to people. You have no interest in the question. Only in showing your superiority. Kisses BB

We have such a high crime rate because for one thing, most of our preachers are teaching that the Commandments of God are no longer binding upon us. Those Commandments are the bases for our laws, customs, and morals, and with out them we have a high crime rate. The same thing will happen in non Christian country's if you were to strip the religious foundation from their society's. Their laws are based upon religion just like ours are.

The Scandinavians are mostly Lutheran, so they ARE Christian.
Perhaps their crime rate is lower because their economies are solid and their standards of living is high.

Religion has little or nothing to do with it. The crime problem in the US is primarily drugs -- half or more of the offenders in prison are there on drug-related charges. A strong family life is helpful in reducing drug usage, and I imagine that that is important (particularly in Japan).

It is not an issue of religion just their culture. By the way, the majority of Scandinavians are Christians.

Because Japan and Scandanavia have extremely tough gun control laws. You can't get a gun in Japan or Scandanavia. It's not about who go to church, it's about controling the source of crimes, which are guns.
