After a serious bit of worship, the second thing I hope I can do is join Gabriel's trumpet class.
The first catechism of the Westminster Confession of Faith says, "Man's chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever." We can begin to do that on earth right now, but I'm longing for lift-off when all heaven's throngs will be united in The Best Praise Band in the Universe.
I'm also hoping to enjoy meeting a few million Jehovah's Witnesses who will be wandering around, perplexed, trying to figure out why uncountable trillions of folks from earth are there, including themselves. They'll want to know why they are not on a paradise earth, and why heaven was not limited to 144,000 people. I hope their disappointment won't put them off thanking God and accepting his immense and undeserved gift.

Have you ever wondered why God created a physical universe and putphysical people on this physical Earth? God's original intention was not for people to die and go to Heaven. (consider Genesis 2:17) There is no mention of a Heavenly reward there. If Adam and Eve had not sinned against God by disobeying Him, they would still have been alive today - on the Earth! This is still God's purpose for mankind and the Earth (Psalm 37 v11; Proverbs 2 v21; Matthew 5 v5, etc...)
Waht we will do on the Earth is live forever, working to make things genuinely better for everyone. (Consider Isaiah 11 v9)

While I'm no proponent of the idea, heaven is conceptual engineering run rampant, as far as I can tell. In a realm of spirit, thoughts would become unimaginably potent. We're talking serious, mind-bending reality manipulation style potent here. You could do pretty much anything that a stronger spirit didn't restrict you from.

I've always thought it'd be like you've achieved Nirvana or whatever, so all you'd actually want or need to do to be happy forever is contemplate the natural beauty of the Universe.

It is very hard for most of us to imagine what heaven would be like because only a very few humans will go to heaven. The Bible teaches that 144,000 people, bought from the earth will go to heaven to rule with Jesus for a thousand years. They will be Kings and Priests and Judges. The rest of us have life everlasting on earth to look forward to...that is why God put eternity into our hearts, we can imagine living forever on an earthly paradise as humans. Imagine, no sickness, death, crime, war, injustice, hatred...that was God's purpose for us from the beginning and it still is his purpose now. He has not changed.
There are many scriptures to back this teaching up. Here are a few about the 144,000.
Revelation5:8 & 9: "And when he took the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, having each one a harp and golden bowls that were full of incense, and the [incense] means the prayers of the holy ones. 9 And they sing a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll and open its seals, because you were slaughtered and with your blood you bought persons for God out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, 10 and you made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God, and they are to rule as kings over the earth.”
Revelation 7:4: " And I heard the number of those who were sealed, a hundred and forty-four thousand, sealed out of every tribe of the sons of Israel:" **
**(this refers to Spiritual Israel, or the Israel of God) The twelve tribes are listed incorrectly because they are not the literal twelve tribes of ancient Israel, they lost their standing with God as a nation thousands of years ago). The 12 listed are Rueben, Gad, Asher, Naphtali, Manasseh, Simeon, Levi, Issachar, Zebulun, Joseph, and Benjamin..........Dan is left out and Joseph was never a tribe, but was divided into two half tribes: Manasseh and Ephraim.
Revelation 14:1-3:" And I saw, and, look! the Lamb standing upon the Mount Zion, and with him a hundred and forty-four thousand having his name and the name of his Father written on their foreheads. 2 And I heard a sound out of heaven as the sound of many waters and as the sound of loud thunder; and the sound that I heard was as of singers who accompany themselves on the harp playing on their harps. 3 And they are singing as if a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders; and no one was able to master that song but the hundred and forty-four thousand, who have been bought from the earth."
These 144,000 began with the apostles. No one had the privilege of going to heaven before Jesus died and ascended to heaven.
That is why he is called the firstborn from the dead at
Revelation 1:5: "and from Jesus Christ, “the Faithful Witness,” “The firstborn from the dead,” and “The Ruler of the kings of the earth.”
