To lower juvenile crime rates there must be after school programs offered. You have to have something for the kids to do. If you don't, they will find things to do, which will probably be crime related. Having after school clubs/programs (i.e. boys and girls clubs of america) gives the juveniles guidance. But also the parents has to be an active part too. They have to teach their child what is right and what is wrong. They can't us let them roam the streets after school and just except them to be home for dinner. What are they doing out there during the time of school being dismissed and dinner? Probably coming in contact with possible individuals who will serve as a bad influence. I'm in college now and I have seen many of old classmates from grade school being arrested for breaking the law. This is not all their fault. It is the mostly the fault of their parents who didn't guide them down the correct path.

Decency and knowing right from wrong are learned behaviors. People aren't born that way. Therefore, discipline must first begin in the home when the children are old enough to distinguish between proper and improper ways to behave. It's the parents' job, first and foremost, to teach their kids to be good citizens. Secondly, they need a good education. Third, it's important to belong to the right peer groups. People judge you by the company you keep. A sound religious background is another pre-requisite to keeping kids off the street. These are the basics, and I realize there are many variables of it. Also, kids need to have something constructive to occupy their minds and their hands. Having them engage in worthwhile projects and activities will prepare them to take their place in society as decent, law-abiding citizens.

Dunno, but ASBO's are now treated like the Blue Peter Badge was treated in my day-am not that old by the way-GOTTA GET ONE!
Sad really, people say that kids need summit to do, there was sod all to do in my day either but we were neva in trouble.
Me thinks it is just society and the fact that kids cannot be punished in schools like we could be in my day...I was sh1t scared of my headmaster! A lot of kids today just beat them up or threaten them with a knife!
I have 3 teenage boys and brought them up the same way I was........maybe this is the problem..no discipline in the family!

Stay active in there lives and show interest. They are bored these days. I believe if you are interested in their lives then they will be too. Listen when they talk a lot of the times they have something to say in a round about way.

Make more activities for kids available, that takes them out of gangs, and boredom.

No, don't blame parents and custodians because ultimately it is the decision of the kid to do good, or bad. Just think of all those who rose from poverty, abusive environments, and neglect to become role models. And it was not because of their parents.

Give those kids something to do. 'Cause when kids do nothing, they do stupid things.
