I wasn't planning on answering any questions today but I saw yours and I just had to reply. My husband had two Dachshunds (a male and a female) and I had a female beagle. Well when we got married they were introduced and apparently began to live under one roof. They absolutely love each other. They have so much energy and they chase each other through the house until the wee hours of the morning! My female beagle and my female weenie dog have gotten into a couple of fights. But it was over a chew bone. So as long as you have plenty of bones laying around everywhere, you should be good. I really think they are great companions. Good Luck!!

Yes, they'll get along fine. However, dogs are pack animals so make sure the Dachshund knows it's the bottom of the pack since it's your second puppy. If your Beagle is a female you should get a male and get them both fixed unless you want some interesting looking puppies. Good luck!

Those are 2 good dogs to put together. Dachshunds get along pretty well with anything. I prefer the long haired ones, then tend to be a bit more... uh... I think they are cuddlier. My wiener dog loves being on my lap and she lays on my face and curls up in a ball against the nape of my neck!
As for your beagle, if it isn't currently aggressive with other animals, it wont be with a dachshund. They are very hardy little dogs so the playing wont hurt it either. Just make sure you read up on the breed. They are prone to back and leg injuries because of their short stature. Make sure your new pup doesn't get to jump off of the couch until it gets older and make sure it doesn't get fat it is very bad for this breed of dog.
As for the sex of the dog. It doesn't really matter, you should be fine with either. Just make sure that you spay and neuter so you don't have puppies. Chances are if your current female is friendly already, she may try to be motherly to the new pup!
Good luck, dachshunds are a hootin hell of a lot of fun!

I would suggest getting a male dog, as your female could be very territorial with another female.
Beagles and dachshunds should get along fine. It all depends on the temperaments of the individual dogs. Just be extremely careful when introducing the new puppy to your older dog.
Also, unless you want a mixed breed, I would suggest getting at least one of them fixed.

We tend to think of dog training as a series of steps for teaching particular behaviors. To teach a dog to stay in a particular position, you reward her as she remains in place for gradually longer times, at gradually greater distances, with gradually increasing degrees of distraction. Now, this is fine, training does involve teaching dogs specific behaviors with a step-by-step approach. This week, though, I’m going to discuss three mental habits that will not only enable you train more effectively but also make life pleasant for both you and your dog.

It all depends on the temperments of the dogs. But the two breeds usually do well with each other.
