Samuel Adams Utopias 2003 batch hit 25.6%, beating their previous records set with their Triple Bock and Milennium beers.

It's not legal in all states.

Don't know if this is still around, but:

"The 48 proof beer / Feb. 14, 2002

Those wild and crazy guys at Boston Beer Co. have done it again, brewing a beer so strong they label it 48 proof, using terminology usually reserved for spirits. Sam Adams Utopias MMII, which goes on sale this month, is in fact 24% alcohol by volume, making it the strongest commercial beer in the world. "

It's very difficult to make beers or lagers above 6% abv without them suddenly starting to taste awful. In the UK I've tried 9 11 and 13% beers and they never taste right, Chimay is really smooth compared to most.
Try real beer of 3.5 to 6% abv, not lager, sip whiskey w. it then you get the best of both worlds.

Microbreweries are good for that b/c they do make different styles of beer that mean increased alcohol.
But for lots of alcohol in beer, the Belgians seem to consistently have the highest content. I'm hoping you just dislike Chimay, not Belgian in general. Farmhouse ales will also put you in good stead, lots of good ones from France too.

Live near a local micro brewery? There are some micros that can exceed 12% alcohol content. I used to live in Boulder, and I miss all the pubs and microbreweries with locally made beers...now I live in a f**king 3.2% fat beer state! Aaargghh!!!! I can still get a decent beer selection at the liquor store, but they sell it unrefrigerated, and they close at 9 pm. Someday, I pray, I will live in the real world again....(sigh) Can't go wrong with Sam Adams Cream Stout...

Well, ya got Sweetwater 420 (Atlanta), Dale's Pale Ale (Colorado), Sam Adams ( Octoberfest), I'm not sure where it's from but Red Hook IPA. That's all I can think of right now ... But, that should get you thru whatever you're trying to do.
