i have a 2 1/2 year old female cat, whom we feed twice a day, ususally when we feed her in the morning, she "gouges" her food, runs around, and 10 minutes later, she pukes some of it up. what is wrong, and how can we solve this? thank you!

It sounds like she's very simply eating too much too quick. Try feeding her smaller amounts more often. Another good remedy for a cats tummy is catnip (otherwise known as catmint)... sprinkle a bit on her food and it can help calm upset stomach.

You could try the trick of putting a golf ball or two into the feed bowl. That way the cat has to try to eat around the balls to get to the delicious kibble and it'll slow them down a little. Or instead of feeding her all of her food at once during her two meal times give her a small portion wait a few minutes and then give her some more.

As for the running around you could try playing with her before meal times so she burns off her extra energy and won't be running around right after eating.

Wow does that sound "familiar". Our 11 year old male cat used to do the same thing. Only your vet can tell you what's wrong (if anything) but this is what we did.

We used to fed him dry food twice a day (he is on "Feline C/D"). Every morning he eats it very fast, and shortly after, throw everything up.

He was losing so much weight that I was getting worried so I changed his morning meal from dry food to a can of wet food (Fancy Feast). He hasn't thrown up since!

I have no idea if this will help your cat (maybe you already give your cat wet food) but it worked for ours. Just a suggestion.

Best of luck.

Try keeping a large bowl full of some weight control food out for her. Shes gorging herself too much at one time and can't hold the food down. if she satys satisfied and has the food always available she may stop all the gorging. I tried this with my own cat. If She has enough food all the time, she won't think she's starving when her bowl is empty. Just try it but make sure to use the weight control food.

This sounds like hairballs to me. My cat also has them and I started feeding Iams Indoor Hairball formula and I also bought some hairball remedy at the local wal mart and it helped my cat imensly. Hope this helps your problem. Good luck.

Get her to a vet. Try to keep her from running around by petting her for 10 min.

Buy hairball control food. My Siamese was doing the same thing. They lick themselves so much and swallow the hair, then added to food and exercise, it makes them throw up. Try to brush her daily as well.

Almost sounds like acid reflux but I don't know what you could do about it. I've heard that fresh green grass helps animals digest their food.

You may want to talk to your vet. I would also look at changing eating habits and food as well.
