The 24 hour exemption is only $50 Canadian

The 48 hour exemption is $200.

7 days exemption is $750

You must be gone longer than the time - thus if you are gone one night and 2 days your exemption is $50. If you are gone for a day-trip, say 8 to 12 hours, you don't get a $50 exemption

I do the exact same thing, I take the tags off. I bought clothes and I packed it into my suitcases and loaded it into my trunk. In the States they have great prices, very affordable too. I bought and I-pod there and opened the box and threw everything else away and packed my cables etc in my luggage. When Returning to Canada, have some receipts handy.

take the tags off the clothes you buy and wear them once.....listen to any music and so on....even if they are not for you:0: In the almost 20 years we lived in BC and cross border shopped - till the dollar dropped - the only thing we ever paid duty on was our daughter's grad dress.
