Well why would you want to put it back in if you "are going to be eating it tonight?"
If you "aren't" going to be eating it tonight and it's not thawed out completely, then it should be okay to put it back in the freezer --- if it has thawed out completely, then I wouldn't advise doing so.

On most hamburger there are "sell by" dates, translation of "sell by" is cook or freeze by dates. Really you should freeze it at least 2 days before the sell by date, freezing it only slows the spoilage time it doesn't stop it completely. I don't take chances with meat, especially since I don't eat it cooked well done in my burgers, I like medium so I make sure I"m at least 2 days from the sell by date. IF you ever have to question if some type of food is still good, it's not, that's the safe way to play it. NO matter how much you pay for food a trip to the hospital will always cost more! Since you froze it, smell won't matter.

Yes, it is fine, meat doesnt go bad as a lot of people say. I was raised that meat not going back in the freezer after defrosted is an old wives tale, and fear tactics used by the news and government. Ive done this a zillion times, and never had food poisoning, or bacteria. It is safe, and please don't throw away the GOOD meat, put it back into the freezer, and it is fine until you use it.

Yes to all answers above. You will lose flavor and texture. Hamburger meat is not very expensive. I would just buy fresh from the store.

Absolutely. Besides, it is probably not even thawed out yet. Toss it back in.

yes, cause its probably still partially frozen, however, it will also keep for a couple more days. You could also brown it first and refreeze or refrigerate.
