Its definitely gotten a bad reputation. I think a lot of places in the United Kingdom get a reputation for being cloudy and dreary like 95% of the time. I personally am not too fond of the clouds and that but I love rainy weather - so I dont find it as depressing as some people.

If you go there to have fun, with lots of people or even with some one, you will find it so fun, But ifyou go there alone expecting to have fun, thats when it becomes so depressing!
You need company to enjoy Scotland like any other place.... unless you are so good at making friends, then you get friends in Scotland.... and they are one of the best people.
So, Scotland is not depressing at all......

I went there for a week backpacking across Europe with a group of friends.. and stayed in hostels while there on the Royal Mile.
Went Clubbin and met some really interesting people.. one was a scientist who does stem cell research ((I was like whoooaaa)) I had a lot of fun there..
Stayed in Edinburgh, went to Edinburgh castle.. Everywhere you go, you see mountains.. It's amazing. I can hardly believe anyone would be depressed living there. Especially with their rich heritage too. I'm Scottish myself but currently live in Canada.
I know.. That I'd love to go back there to visit or stay.

I have no idea, I went there and one of my friends actually lives in Edinburgh, but I do like it. The depressing thing that people may notice is the grey houses and it may give a gloomy feel, but there is tons of fun things to do.

They go to Glasgow or something? If I could earn a decent living in Edinburgh or Fort William I wouldn't be sitting in California now.

yes, very depressing, unless you enjoy cloudy grey skies 95% and very windy weather,. All building are grey adding to depressing atmosphere. Most people are angry and pissed off and don't like tourists

No, not at all, go to Edinburgh, it is really awesome! Full of history, and the castle is right in the middle of the city.
