My 3 month old black lab has been doing so good at potty training. She hasn't gone on the floor for quite some time now. She does have a bad habit of peeing in her kennel when I'm not around. I'll put her in her kennel when I go to work, which is right across the street, and be able to take quick breaks to go home and let her out, but she still pees in it. I usually get her out every 4 hours during the night and she'll do it then too, or I'll take her out, put her in her kennel while I shower and come back and she's gone in there. I clean it out everytime with one of those special soaps that's supposed to get her urine smell out of it. I can't keep any blankets or pillows in there for her because she pees on them. Some have gotten to the point where they couldn't be washed anymore...I just had to throw them out. What do I do??? Please help!!!

Pups can be expected to hold it, for one hour per month of age..Most likely, when she was less than 3 months, she was not able to be out every 2 hours, so had to do it in the kennel.. this became a habit, and she learned that it was a safe place to do it..
If you work across the street..for just a couple of weeks, take off every 2 1/2 - 3 hours, and walk her...sprinkle a handful of good kitten kibble all around the inside of the crate, (with a large towel or such, so it hides in the folds) so it will all smell like food..and she will be afraid to 'go' on it and ruin it..as she won't know she has gotten it all out..
As she gets older, she can only be expected to hold it for one hour per her months of age..so it will get better as she matures
Please forget that you even read the comments about punishing!!! this is really beyond her control, just as when you wet your diapers during the night..

Make sure the kennel is small enough so that she can only stand up and turn around in, dogs don't like to go where the sleep. Make sure you have her on a strict schedule as to when you let her out. When she does mess in her cage don't make a big fuss bc the dog may only be trying to get your attention (even if it is negative) just clean it up and go on. Good Luck

That depends. The kennel should only be big enough so that they can stand and turn around. Dogs don't usually go to the bathroom in their 'den' but if it's large enough where they can potty in a corner and not lay in it then it's too big.

Your dogs kennel shouldn't be much bigger than her, most dogs won't use the bathroom if they are in a small confined kennel, mine doesn't anyway.Limit her water intake a couple of hours before you put her in. Good Luck

You're going to need to get some professional behaviourist help. Are you sure your dog doesn't have any urinery tract problems?
Try shoving your dogs nose right where she peed, that's how dogs know not to pee in that specific spot. However if they're already house broken it might not work. For blankets, towels, ect. use all white and designate those as "dog blankets" and when you wash them use cold water with some salt and bleach in your washer. It will get the smell and stains out. Good luck!

Is the crate too big? A crate should only be big enough for them to stand in and turn around. Any bigger and dogs will use one end for a bathroom. Also, disinfect it really good as to get rid of the smell, so he may not be tempted to.

at 3 months old your puppy is not old enough to be able to hold its bladder that long. you should take her out at least every hour to hour and a half
