Fresh fruits and vegetables
Lean meats, fish, and poultry
For vegetarians, tofu and dried beans and legumes
Water instead of soda, etc.
Don't eat the processed and snack foods.

You should get plenty of healthy foods that way; you don't need a health food store.

Check with your local farmers market - they often accept food vouchers (some you can even apply for special discounts/vouchers to be used there). Some farmers markets also have programs where they donate what hasn't sold at the end of the day to food kitchens or needy families. If your local market doesn't have that program maybe you should talk to them about it. Talk to local church groups also - they may have a food bank program that accepts these types of donations that you could apply for.
Check the organics section at your grocery store. You can use your stamps there but keep in mind organics are rather pricey. Frozen is usually less expensive than fresh, of course. I always watch for sales in the organics section and buy then. Many of the fresh fruits don't keep as long though so you don't want to overbuy unless you know you will use it before it goes bad. For the most part you can pick and choose - some fruits and veggies with hard shells or that can be peeled are okay even if they are not grown organically. Others (such as berries, apples, lettuces, etc.) are heavily sprayed or treated - wash them really well before eating or stick to organic.
As far as meats go - if you live near a rural area, sometimes there are local butchers that only have organic meats. I buy from a butcher in the next town who sells me beef for 1.75/lb. My family now goes in together on a half a cow each year - it's economical and tastes great! I buy chicken from the farmers market but I haven't found 'organic' pork yet.
If you have the opportunity in the spring - start a small garden. Even if it's on a terrace or patio. You would be surprised at what you can grow in a small area. If you have any empty lots in your neighborhood or a common area in an apartment complex talk to someone about starting a community garden. If you could organize a few people to help out someone should be able to come up with a rototiller and a few tools. Look into it now so you can spend some of the winter planning the garden and researching natural gardening. See about setting up a small area to compost (go to your local library or look it up on the net - proper composting and natural, organic gardening). You will probably meet some great people and learn a lot. Plus it's fun.

Shop at a very large grocery store. Many stores, such as Walmart, are now offering organic as well as regular foods. You can eat healthy by buying chicken and fish and other low fat meats. Alot of healthy is in the preparation. Skin chicken to get rid of most of the fat and broil or bake most meats. Dried beans are excellent and make great split pea soups, and bean soups. Get a good cook book because alot of vegetable taste better than most meats. Buy unbleached flour rather than bleached. Read labels and avoid anything that has a high sodium count. Buy high fiber bread. The label should read 3 grams of fiber or more. Eating healthy is more a choice of food preparation rather than having the money to buy organic. Work for a balance of carbohydrates, protein, dairy. Buy 2% milk instead of whole unless you have kids...they need the whole milk. Buy butter or yogurt butter rather than margarine. Use olive oil for frying and flavoring rather than vegetable oils. Try adding low fat meats to your diet such as lamb when its on special. Buy pork tenderloin which is often on special rather than chops. Stay away from most prepared meals as they are full of additives and sodium.

Read labels. What are you trying to avoid? If you're not on a special diet, stick to vegetables, lean meats and fish, lower calorie sweets and moderation. Exercise the various muscle groups in your body and avoid most fats. Good luck. Peanut butter is a good meat substitute if fish is too expensive, eggs should be eaten sparingly, but almost all foods can be eaten, just smaller portions of some than others. Canned fruit is fine if you drain the syrup, fresh is better, and canned in its own juice is like fresh.

Bagged lettuce is pretty cheap, you can get it anywere. There is also fish. Even tuna will do. Save some stamps by staying off pop and chips and ice cream. If you save up you might be able to start getting soy stuff which is much better for you than regular dairy. Soymilk, soy yogurt, and soy (or rice) ice cream. Soy is kinda expensive but if you save up you should be ok. And exercise will help appetite. You won't want to eat as much. I suggest running. That's what i do. Hope this helps.
