I have a small dog, and no he's a mutt not a purebreed. He was abandoned on my doorstep, but he was well cared for before he arrived at the house. He had been groomed, didn't have heartworm, and was well trained. I want to have puppies from him is there anyway I can breed him with a pure bred, with him being a mutt and not having papers. Or would I have to get another mutt.

You do need to know that he will not be nearly as nice of a pet, after he has experienced breeding..He will have a stronger drive to mark and will be more apt to run away, looking for a female in heat..Really, it will take his focus off of you, as a wonderful companion, and re focus his attentions on wanting to mate..
that is why all K9 working dogs are neutered, so they are not distracted from their job and training..

You will be hard pressed to find anyone with half a brain, willing to breed a purebred with a mutt.

Why do you want to breed him? Responsible breeding is done to ensure good lines in a certain breed. And neutering will add years to your dogs life, and protect him from certain cancers. And you know absolutely nothing about breeding. What if something goes wrong during delivery? Do you know how to care for newborn pups and their mother??

I work in rescue, and I have seen animal after animal put to DEATH because there are not enough homes. I wish I could make you watch, as an innocent animal DIES because someone bred their dog for the wrong reason.

Yes, this is harsh, but if you SEE that, first hand and hear of someone wanting to breed a mutt for stupid reason, you get angry.

Shelters are FULL of animals, up to 25% of dogs in shelters are purebred...why would you want to create more mutts? You may be able to place the puppies initially, but that isn't hard to do, puppies are cute..... I see tons of dogs on death row neglected for reasons like : owner didn't have enough time, owner moved... STUPID reasons, and I'm sure the owners got the "cute" puppy and then realized a dog is a lifelong commitment that takes work and money...and then the poor dogs end up in a shelter. WHY WOULD YOU ADD TO THAT????

The best thing you can do is to have him neutered. You do not klnow anything about his background, even what kind of dog he is so why would you deliberately breed him? Anyone owning a purebred dog would not allow your dog to breed theirs. If you are interested in raising pups, you should start with 2 purebreds, not a mutt and a purebred or 2 mutts.

You could breed him with another mutt, but it is very unlikely you will get another dog just like him, being that there will be so many breeds he could be mixed with you don't know what you'll get. Breeding with a pure bred female is unlikey unless you want to spend a ton of money to pay a pure bred owner to let you breed him. I say the best thing is to go to a shelter or petfinder to look for another dog who looks and behaves like him. Good Luck.

Any dog is capable of being bred with any other dog. However it is a very very poor choice to make! There are 27 million unwanted pets turned into shelters each year. Just because this dog is healthy and well behaved doesn't mean the pups will be. It takes time and effort to have a well behaved dog. Also, don't expect to make any money off the pups. All you will get is the hassle of caring for an extra bunch a dogs.

Most people who own a purebred aren't going to let their female be bred with a mutt. If you want to breed it will probably be mutt to mutt. Being that you have the male, I would imagine it's going to be hard to find a female mutt owner that wants to breed. It's a lot of responsibility to have a litter of pups.

You can breed him with either a purebreed or a mute. It would probably cost you alot to breed with a purebreed usually $500, so you would be better off to find a regular cute dog you like the looks of.

You can really do whatever you want. If you get a purebred or another mutt for breeding the puppies won't go for as much as purebred dogs. It's really up to you. Good luck!

If you can find an owner of the breed you want to cross him with and pay the person for the entire litter and expense of her dog being pregnant you might be able to. There is no law against it, you would probably have a hard time finding someone willing to put their female's life on the line for your need of a puppy. You'd be better off buying a girl of your own and breeding them in a couple years.

he doesnt need to breed!!!!! if you want a friend for him go to your local rescue or shelter and adopt a dog......no one with a "purebred"female will breed to a mutt.....also what will you do with a litter of pups?do you have qualified homes lined up for them? do you have money for emergency vet bills? just have him neutered and save another life by adopting.DONT BREED OR BUY WHILE SHELTER ANIMALS DIE !!!!!!!
