I don't have an answer to the original question, but there is a huge difference between renewable energy and sustainable energy. Whoever said that coal is a renewable energy source, theoretically they are right. Generally speaking though, "renewable" refers to something that can be replaced in our lifetime. However, sustainable energy sources certainly do not include nuclear energy because of the enormous repercussions when things go wrong. Sustainable energy does not refer to something that has consequences outside of our capacity to handle.

Using the conventional definition of "renewable" it is about 2%. But please remember even coal is a renewable source, it takes several 100 millions years though.
All energy ultimately comes from the sun and the stars which are powered by nuclear fusion

There is not now, nor will there ever be enough energy produced from renewable resources unless we intensify research into nuclear fussion.... but then tne ever more vocal and self obsessed tree huggers will not allow that

Hi. More and more. Don't know the current % but on Prince Edward Island they have a wind farm and get 4% of electric power from it.
