I have a large house and everthing is stain. Stairs, windows, doors, base moulding, etc. I was wondering, what is the best way to paint over this wood? The only coat of stain that has been applied is the Minwax brand. Most oft he wood has been stained over 10 years ago, but some of the wood was stained about a year ago. Should I prime this wood first? And if so what type of primer should I use? Or is there a better way without priming and then painting?

In order to paint over a stained product, it is important to stain block it. otherwise the stain will bleed. stain blocker will work, but it is important to get any sealant off, such as polyurethane (sp?). the best way to do that, honestly, while messy, is sanding. a stripper will work, but may cause damage to neighboring materials. so, sand the urethane away, stain block w/ original oil-based kilz (the only primer worth using). it may take two coats depending on the stain used. then you can paint over it.

HOWEVER, my question to you is why? stained wood never has to be painted!!! if you open the painted stain can of worms....

The best primer would be stuff called Killz (or something like that)
It will keep the stain from bleeding thru to the paint.

People Are Strange - A Short song which entices you and I Can't help but feel my hairs stand up when it comes on, Definitely one of the songs I Could listen to 50 times in one days and still love it, It's short but mellow and enjoyable in every way, Underlooked when it comes to their singles but I still love it.
