You did the right thing. You had no alternative. If you lead him on that would have hurt him more in the long run. I don't think he'll be devestated, more likely dissapointed. He must have known when he wrote his letter, that this was one of the possible outcomes from doing such a thing.

Sounds like you did the correct thing. You didnt drive red hot pokers into his heart or rip it out and shred it in front of him so youre on a roll. No, seriously,You made the right decision. You told him in no uncertain terms how you feel and what you think of him.He might pout around a few days but when you see him just act as if things are still friendly between you both and let him know theres no uncomfortable feelings anywhere. He will play it off somehow, just let him deal with however he likes as long as its not destructive..

It is good that you didn't lead him on.... he will be disappointed but you handled it the best way you could......it would have been worse if he would have thought you liked him and then you had to break it off at a more serious part of the relationship.....he will be over it in a month maybe a week

You did the right thing. You can't worry about what he'll go through. Just take pride in the fact that you will get him where he ought to be, at least with you, in the long run. If you didn't kill him, you've only made him stronger. Good for you.

I'm sure he's going to feel really bad, but you can't lie to him about it. Telling him how you actually feel in the nicest way possible is the best you can do. Hopefully he'll be able to take it allright.

with guys
if you do not devastate them
they will always think you want them..
and keep coming back or keep you in their heart and keep hurting.
so with guys you have to make a clean and powerful break...
sorry but that's the way it is..
good luck
