I always thought that Maine Coon's didn't just chirp at birds, bees & moths (like my Bengals) but that they chirped at their people too... & that these were the only cats to chirp at people in such a way. Just found a couple of articles that confirm it ...
A lovely site - the Maine Coon Rescue site that gives the History, Legends & Myths of the Maine Coon. Apparently raccoon babies also chirp - which is one of the reasons why the Maine Coon was known as the Racoon cat. It doesn't really explain why - but it's a really good write-up about them. There''s even more information on the CFA site.

Sorry not to be able to find a proper explanation.
Must admit my Bengals don't chirp at me ... more sort of yell "Woo-ow!" or "Naaah-ow!" ... lol.

I've got two Bengals and they Chirp from time to time. Usually when they are playing or if they can see something they want to get (Like a moth on the other side of a window!)

Many cats "chirp" or "chuff" while playing or hunting, I have 2 Maine Coons, and they both chirp at birds out the window, or while chasing a bug. It's completely normal. Cats have many vocalizations, chirping is just one of them.

Hi there...cats chirp when they become excited beyond belief at something they see. This is quite commonly seen in cats and is quite natural as well. Here's a couple videos of cat's chirping:

it is normal ,every cat meows differently yours may chirp, but when he grows up his voice may change .it is like us they change he needs to develop his vocal cords ,you should be happy because when he learns how to meow you'll regret the fact that the cat learned how to .

my cat barks like a dog but in a higher sqweekier pitch.
it's kind of cute, at first i might of thought she never had a mother teach her how to meow but i figured all cats are different and mine was one of the odd ones.
