Sun emits light and heat. When the heat starts heating the earth, the air near the earth gets hot and start going up , because it's lighter than the air above that's colder and that's how it's starts basically, but there's more into it than just this.

Also the water that evaporates... etc etc...

Hi. It heats the Earths surface. This energy drives the weather which is what actually causes wind.
