Do you need either?
Think of it like this, tounge rings are seeming to fall out of style at least where I am, so having one of those might not be cool in the near future.
Tatoos are always decnet you will have to deal with having it for the rest of your life, unless you get it removed. And knbow that when your 60 and have a tatoo on you, it wont be as sexy as it used to be ;-)
I would say tatoo, but something nice and small. My fiancee has a tattoo that she got on her 18th bday on her shoulder of a small green butterfly. Its not slutty or bad at all, just make sure to put it in a place you can cover up and is not in a slutty position :)

It shouldn't be a decision like that anyway. A tattoo you are gonna have for life. So it should be something that actually means something to you and that in 20 years you will say i am still glad that i have this, it represents me. You shouldn't get a tattoo to just get one because you are 18. And if that's the case, then the tongue ring only because it can come out. But that as well I'm sure guys will think that you got if for one reason only...

Either or you'll still look like a skank. I have one tattoo. But tattoos do not enhance the beauty of a woman. And a tongue ring will also make you look like a moron. I'm giving you my honest opinion based on my experiences.

It's an extreme stereotype name-skank-for one with piercings and all. I think you shouldn't get either. Mainly cause you've put people with both into a category based on how they look. Tattoos and piercings aren't degrading, to some, it's an art form which is appreciated by those whom see it and have them. Until you can figure out the reasoning behind why you want to get either one, you shouldn't.

Tatoo = easy
tonge ring = really easy

You should get what you want, all the crap people talk is just background noise. If it isn't one thing, it's another, people by nature will put you down for being you. Having a tat or piercing isn't slutty, it doesn't make you easy, and it doesn't give the impression that you are, either. Just make sure the tat or piercing is what you really want. Until you make the decision for yourself, don't get either. Be smart about it, do your research, and make your decision.

Tongue rings are really gross but a tattoo is OK as long as its not on your face or somewhere like that.

Neither, but the less permanent of both evils is the tongue ring, at least you can remove it, and it will not last forever...
