My question is not meant to be offensive I'm just curious about the Catholic churchs view. Why is birth control forbade by the church? Is it because sex is for procreation only? If that is the case, would having sex with non-procreation intent be a sin? So then if you used natural family planning so you didn't get pregnant (because the use of birth control is forbidden) would that be consided sex for non-procreation? And if it's a sin, why can't you just use birth control?

The Catholic Church does not teach that sex is for procreation alone. It teaches that God created sex for a dual purpose, and it is wrong to have sexual relations for one of God's purposes, while slamming the door in His face regarding the other. The two purposes of sex in marriage are described as the procreative and the unitive. Sex is for the unity of the couple, to bring them closer together, deepen their relationship, and to give each other pleasure; AND for the procreation of children. Natural family planning is allowed by the Church for the spacing of children, and for other serious reasons. It is allowed because it is natural, not artificial; because it allows some possibility of pregnancy if that is God's will; and because unlike artificial methods it is not harmful to the woman or to the couple's relationship. In fact, the divorce rate among couples who use NFP is about 3%. However, NFP used by a couple who are simply closed to the possibility of children is just as immoral as any other method of preventing God's plan.

If you would like to know more, you can find it here: http://www.ccli.org

Incidentally, the "rhythm method" hasn't been used for at least 40 years. NFP is not even similar.

I can't speak for Catholics, but I do know that a lot of them frown on birth control.
As for Protestants like me, most of us accept birth control as a good thing. Preventing a baby from coming into being is not the same as killing it once it grows. Nowhere in the Bible does it say sex is only for making babies. The Bible actually tells married couples to enjoy each other's bodies and that sex should not be used to make someone feel bad.

using the rhythm method of birth control is still family planning but is not forbidden by the catholic church as far as I know. it is obviously not as safe a method as many others but nature is more in control. sex is for joining of husband and wife not just pleasure sex with your husband is never a sin. O I am not catholic but know God made sex for the enjoyment of copoles and child creation.

the catholic religion uses the "rhythm method" for birth control purpose and it's pretty obvious that is not the best method of birth control because they just kept having kids one after another.
that used to be in the old days before birth control pill were around. now in days they use condoms & birth control pills, safe sex is completely preach in the catholic religion. people are going to have sex no matter what, married or not. hope this helps you out.

natural family planning is not a sin. I personally don't think birth control pills are a sin. I feel that anything that could cause an embro/fetus to abort like iud's or day after pills are a sin. However birth control pills just keeps the egg from coming out. Natural family planning is just scheduling sex around ovulation days. It's only a sin to take or do something that would kill an embroy/fetus.

Anything you do to prevent the development of a child is birth control. That includes abortion, natural-rhythm method, pills, condoms, masturbating, spermicide or vinegar douches.
The church's stand is that you are "playing God" to decide for yourself when and if you will have a baby. It is your duty as a faithful catholic to have as many babies as god decides to "bless" you with. This is even the stand in cases of rape, incest, deformity, or injury/death to the mother. Think of yourself as a baby-machine.
Sex is ok to enjoy in marriage, if you are also taking the risk of child-bearing. Sex is not ok to enjoy for any other purpose.
Think of it as disgusting, except to make more catholics.
That about covers it.

Actually its one of the least effective methods and here is why. You can only get pregnant during your fertility window. You are fertile for 3 days starting the day you ovulate. You ovulate 14 days before your next period. However your cycle can shift without warning even when its been 100% regular. Also sperm live an average of 72 hours inside the female body, longer if the conditions are right (up to a week). If there are live sperm in your body when you ovulate you can get pregnant even if the sex that left them there happened days ago.
