Fixed wing props supporting the choppers! This initially used in Korea and later adopted in Vietnam. Both aircraft able to manoeuvre with greater effect. Right upstairs maybe carrier fighters to intercept / ward of enemy long range jets. As known the US military invests both men and hardware in the recovery of down pilots and tacking in / bringing out infantry or whatever. In some respects today its not as efficient as it should be because too may 3/4 star Admirals & Generals consider it more of a reservist function as oppossed to the very professional support service it undoubtedly is.

Bonobo is quite right the army by an act of congress cannot have combat planes only utility planes and helos. thank the air force for that one. The congress said okay because they didn't want to fund 4 different fixed wing services at once.

As i recall, when the U.S. Air force was formed in 1947, congress passed a law saying that the Army could no longer use fixed wing combat aircraft.

The army only has helos for close air support, the only fix-wing aircraft they possess is for transport of D.V.s e.g. Generals, Congressmen, Senators and such. And no, they do not have
C-130s.

I believe C-130s are the only fixed wings they have. You'd have to lob the bombs out of the back hatch, so I guess that wouldn't work too well.
Got some nice helos, though.
