All of the above in excess can cause split ends. Here is a really great article about what causes them. But anything can cause split ends: your shampoo, conditioner, styling products, heat styling, brushing, weather. It sucks too because the only real way to fix them is to have your hair cut.

All of those answers are correct. Split ends are caused by damaging the cuticle. You can damage your cuticle by using bad brushes, bad products, bad shampoo, bad conditioner, hair colour, perms, or bleach.
You can repair your hair with an acidifying conditioner or a protein reconstructor. For best results, alternate between the two. I recommend Nexxus Ensure Conditioner and Nexxus Phyto Organics Enphuse Reconstructor.

Well i used to have really bad split ends and with my mam beein a hair dresser she told me it was because i straightened my hair too often and i also dye it regularly. Using a good conditioner can reduce the chance of you getting split ends

It can be many thing from over processing like dyeing or to much heat like with a flat or curling iron or putting to many products on your hair.

alot of things can break ur hair.thats about all split ends are. so brushing naps out can. so get a spay in conditionar to comb out tangles. FLAT IRONS can do a wonder or damange. blow drying. etc. heat..... just trim it. get some good shampoo and conditionair and ur good to go

hair dye using a blow dryer straightening it umm curling it with a curling iron really ant thing with heat... just have it trimmed every 6 weeks and it will keep it healthy!
