I don't think so. Mental illness displays lack of or excess activity in certain areas of the brain, usually caused by changes in hormone levels. If the brain modified its structure over the years, would medications be able to make the illness manageable?

This is still an open question. There have reports of changes in the brain on scans, but nothing definitive.

It produces more DMT, the chemical thought to be used in dreams. Other than that, I have no idea. Ask a doctor or a schitzophrenia support group on the internet. : )
