Because in the past, superstitious people attirbuted virtually everything to God or gods.
Earthquakes, floods, storms, etc were all the work of God or the gods.
Of course, most people are more reasonable and know it is mostly just natural disasters.

I think evils back then are the same as the evils today. Murder, homosexuality, adultery, stealing, blasphemy, molestation. People in the Bible did these things and were punished or completely killed out. God is still punishing us today and sometimes killing us out. But we tend to say these are forces of nature, not God's wrath. That way we don't have to address the sin and change it. We do turn the other cheek to evil, we close our eyes and shut our mouths and tell each other not to judge or to punish because we have no right to do so. So then the sins just keep happening and with each generation they get bigger and do more damage. History repeats itself but we aren't listening. That's why we still have evils and they are played out on the TV and in movies and in songs and the internet. Our knowledge of technology has enabled us to spread evil through the entire world for all to see. God has changes His heart, He still destroys nations, communities, cities, families, we just refuse to say that God did it.

After the flood, God promised not to destroy the earth again, at least by flooding. But, in the end times there will be a lot of destruction. No change in heart, He's always loved us and hated sin.

God is long-suffering to us ward.
2 Pet. 3: 9
9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is alongsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

He promised never to destroy it with a flood again. But the time of reckoning IS coming in the 2nd judgement.
More of a change of strategy than a change of heart, I think.

After the great flood, he sent a rainbow promising to never do anything that horrible again. Instead, He sent Jesus to suffer and die for our sins, so that if we are evil and sinful we can just accept Jesus as our savior and all will be forgiven.

Just think of it as the big bang. They say its what started the universe. Well, God is waiting for the right time and...BANG! He will end it!!!! The amount of sin in the World is irrelevant. He sent Jesus to take care of that.

It is simply because of the mercy of god to his servants,we.The alien civilization have turn away from god.some even killed his messengers despite signs proofs and evedence showed to them only if they could belief, but the reverse is the case, but for our own generation the purnishment would be in form of epidemics and all sort of adversities due to our own transgressions.God will also judge us in the judgement day..
Remember god does what he likes, when he likes without you questioning him .we always pray for the best.whenever we are purnished it is blessings to us.

Greek, Roman, Chinese civilization were not necessarily less evil. American society is still a Christian nation.

it isn't a change of heart. if you read the bible He knew we were going to get so evil that He was just going to take the righteous one day and punish the rest (rapture & tribulation).
