Actually, in America the state of Washington still executes prisoners by hanging. They hung a prisoner a few years back who claimed it was cruel and unusual punishment. He lost the appeal and was hung.

An unfortunate thing about any death penalty is that every once in a while an innocent suspect is executed. For all crimes, I would support a different method such as work camps where you must perform long hours of heavy labor so you don't have time or energy for playing basketball, whittling shanks, causing the guards trouble or any other undesirable prison related activities. You would be performing service (and I don't mean picking up scraps of garbage on highways, but rather building the highways, for example)to the public which you have offended, and earning credits in which to purchase food and clothing with. Also with these credits, you will have an opportunity to become educated at camp so when/if you are released back to the public you have a chance to contribute to society. You will no longer be a burden to the tax payers. Your term served in this camp will be consistent with the crime you have committed and may seem harsh, but it is meant to teach you that when you commit a crime, you will pay a heavy consequence, and you will think twice before committing another criminal act. So finally, while it would be a horrible fate to be commited to a life sentence in work camp, there is a chance that at some point the evidence could clear you if you are not guilty, and you would still be alive to be released. Work camps, in my opinion, would be a good way to reduce crime and burden upon the innocent tax payers, and at the same time would avoid killing an innocent suspect.

the government want you to be afraid, that way they can manipulate you easier
the north of england and particularly the north east gets a worse service from the police in relation to the level of crime they have, although miscarriages in our own justice system have shown that bringing back the death penalty would not be a good idea
its just like the idea of having an 'armed' police force, the only two times that people have been shot by the armed police squad recently have been 'innocent' people, so we have shown that we are not ready
it would essentially encourage a 'police state'

I do agree that we need to bring back some sort of corporal punishment, but I don't know if hanging is quite humane enough - see we need a method of death that is cheap, civilised, and discreet... I swear that the government does knock off some people on the sly, and I think they should continue with more vigour.
Snag is, it says in the bible that God will deal with the punishment, does that mean we should kill them and deliver them to God faster, or just lock them up, or set them free?

NO WAY. We are supposed to be an intelligent, humane society. Murder is murder. Watch Pierrepoint, the film about the last executioner in Britain, it's interesting that he executed hundreds of people, and didn't really think about the humanity of it until public opinion on the matter began to go against capital punishment. Some people here say they would do the job, but really could you do it with a clear conscience?

Undoubtedly yes. The lack of respect for the Law is endemic in our Society and there needs to be a stricter approach and more power to the Police. Anyone who deliberately takes another's life gives up any human rights they may have and deserves to be put down.

Hanging is too good for them. Let them know they remain imprisoned until they die. Bradly and Hindley experienced hell in prison and wished for an early death. But make it life. Not10-16 with good conduct and paroled at 6 years. Leave them in torment from themselves, other prisoners, of what they've done and what's to come after.

I think you meant who else besides me. By saying who else apart from me you are excluding yourself saying you don't want it. Anyway I am a firm believer that we should not have any such death penalty's. I feel this judgment should be left to God. I do however get upset that our judicial systems lacks in the proper punishment for predators that take the life of another. I think that if one takes a innocent life they should have to pay by spending the rest of their life locked up and made to to something inside the prison other then sit around trying to figure ways to escape or cause more harm to someone else.
Two wrongs don't make a right. So to answer what I believe to be your question, I do not agree with you that hanging should be brought back in to our some what civilized society.

I think we should use the cat-o'-nine tails like the Bahamas. Just doing time doesn't seem to be much of a deterent anymore. I think jails/prisons are much nicer/humane than they used to be.
As far as death sentence penalties, hanging is not very efficient. If you don't get the "fall" correct, the person will not die, but will strangle from the rope.
