I have an exterior (front) door with some glazing/a window in it, approx 24" x 36" in size. For privacy/security reasons I need to cover over this window at night. I haven't yet been able to find anything suitable - light enough, easy enough to open, easy to install on the door. Does anyone make blinds or covers specifically for this purpose? Or has anyone come up with a DIY solution?

At just about any store you can find thin metal curtain rods that you can attach to the top and bottom of the window. I hung mine just to cover the window (top and bottom), and made some cotton panels that could be closed, or opened, by sliding to each side. If you are unable to sew, you can purchase a pair of curtains and just adjust the rods to fit it. Hope this helps

I've seen some blinds advertised for doors that are encased in two panes of glass. They don't need dusting. They can be pulled up to enjoy the view or lowered to provide privacy. I'm not sure what company makes them, but I think I saw it on HGTV.

A DIY solution: You could hang drapes across the top of the door with tie backs that could be drawn at night. Sorta like a victorian parlor treatment.

Hope that helps.

I agree with Elspeth. I saw these doors also. It was Lowe's or Home Depot.
